Jennifer Adams

MSW, Registered Social Worker

  • Jennifer has been a registered social worker in Alberta for fifteen years and has been in clinical practice for the last seven years. She primarily works with individuals (adults and adolescents) who have experienced trauma and PTSD, including developmental trauma, and who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation and relationship challenges as a result.

Jennifer’s work involves helping her clients gain deeper understanding and healing from their past experiences, creating renewed space for change in their lives moving forward. Jennifer is trained in EMDR therapy, including advanced training in working with youth, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (EFIT), DBT and trauma-focused CBT. Through this work, Jennifer is continually in awe at people’s ability to grow, change, and heal from experiences of trauma in their lives, as well as their inherent strength and resiliency discovered in the process. Healing is not done in isolation but in connection; Jennifer considers it a great privilege and honour to be a part of that journey with her clients.

Wondering Which Therapist to Choose?

Most people have heard how important the therapeutic relationship is. How well you “fit” with the therapist is critical to effective counselling. That can feel like it puts a lot of pressure on “getting it right,” which may make choosing a therapist feel like another obstacle.

If you’re unsure which therapist to book with, read on! We can help.

What is “Fit”

First, it helps to understand what a “good fit” is. Counselling fit is the level of trust and understanding between you and your therapist.

With that in mind, clarity about who might be a good fit starts with deciding what is important to you. Maybe you’re looking for a therapist with more experience or expertise with a specific issue. A particular therapeutic approach could be what you’re looking for. You may even be looking for certain characteristics or traits in a therapist.

As you review the therapist profiles, remember what’s important to you and what would help you trust and feel more at ease with a therapist.

Need a Vibe Check?

Details about a therapist’s clinical experience, therapeutic approaches, and other information are available in their profiles at the top of this page. The profiles provide a quick way to find a therapist who offers what you want. But there’s still a question of how well you connect and how you feel when speaking with them.

Therapists at Inward Bound Psychology offer complimentary 15-minute consults. The optional call allows you and the therapist to ask questions and assess if there’s a fit—it’s a chance to see how you vibe with the therapist before booking your first session.

You can choose the optional consult when you click to book an appointment, or if you’re ready to start working with the therapist, skip the call and book your first session.

Fit Takes Time

Occasionally, the fit is evident after the first session. Still, it’s not uncommon for therapeutic relationships to take some time to find their rhythm.

That said, the relationship is really important. If you start working with one of our therapists but realize they aren’t the right fit for you, that’s okay. Please talk with your therapist about it; they will work with you to find the right fit.

Need More Help to Get Started?

The paragraphs above provide some pointers to help you identify a therapist who might be a fit for you. But if you’re still unsure about choosing, contact us using the contact details or form at the bottom of our site. You can speak with a member of our team who can help guide you to the right fit.
